On 05/20/2025, at approximately 1400 hours, the driver of the involved vehicle was traveling
eastbound on State Route 190 at the Emigrant Ranger Station at an unknown speed. For an unknown
reason, the driver allowed the right side tires to drift off the roadway onto the east dirt shoulder,
at which time the driver was ejected from the vehicle. The Vehicle continued for approximately 300
feet where it struck the closed Historic Emigrant Ranger Station, causing major damage to the
vehicle and the historic building. The vehicle continued for another 100 feet, at which time the
rear tractor axle and rear trailer portion were separated from the tractor. The tractor and what
was left of the trailer came to rest in a westerly direction, blocking both lanes of traffic. Due to
the Hazmat Nature of the vehicle’s load and the spillage of Diesel. Caltrans-certified HAZMAT teams
were dispatched by the trucking company to the area for a HAZMAT cleanup. The deceased was taken
into custody by the Inyo County Coroner’s Office. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this
traffic collision.
