Around the nation and the world, people from all walks of life continue to protest the rich who control the government, who escape regulation through campaign donations and the economic pain of the rest. On Saturday, a large group gathered on Bishop’s Main Street to join this protest movement.
Occupy Wall Street continues to capture much of the media attention, and on Saturday a large number of the protestors marched through Federal Court in Foley Square in Lower Manhattan. Marchers called on Washington to stop helping out big banks. Other protestors demonstrated in a separate march to mark Bank Transfer Day, a nationwide movement that urges bank customers to move their deposits to credit unions.
Also on Saturday, a large group of citizens assembled on Main St. in Bishop in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street. They carried signs to express their own discontent in a wide range of issues. Harry White of Mammoth Lakes captured the photo with this story. White himself had this to say:
“A wonderful group of American patriots turned out at the small park on the corner of Main Street and Academy to add their support to the OWS, Occupy Wall Street, movement. Members of this group carried signs supporting the OWS – 99%ers marching along Main St and waving at traffic traveling 395. Most occupants and drivers waved,” said White, “and gave the thumbs up sign and honked their horns. A great day in Bishop and a great day for the USA,” White said.
Talk had earlier circulated in Mammoth Lakes about an Occupy Mammoth. Steve Klassen told the Sierra Wave earlier that he personally supports that idea and had heard of others who did too. Klassen said that “Huge corporations are making it difficult for people to get ahead. The giant corporations,” said Klassen, “own the politicians and the government.”
These items were only part of what eventually was sold as the TARP bailout. The epitome of “dirty politics’ culminating the the raping of the American tax dollar once again by Big Business supported by the current political system. The federal hearings on this clearly showed just how rotten this… Read more »
Great post.
You have the power to establish term limits – VOTE them out. This current group will never enact anything to limit their time at the Wall Street trough.
Tom, Thanks for your considerate response. Fanny and Freddie did played a role in the fiscal crisis, although it has been found that theirs was a very limited factor in the financial collapse. It was mostly greedy bankers and other financial institutions that created the mess. It was also greedy… Read more »

Benett, on a side note, it would be nice if there was an “edit” button so one could correct spelling, etc. after posting. Also it would be nice to have a “quote” button so one could quote the comment that one would like to comment on.
Right on.
Bennett, it’s called free enterprise, right or wrong. The whole mortgage fiasco was started by Sen.’s Dodd and Frank REQUIRUING finace instituitions to loan money on homes to people who couldn’t afford homes, because they thought that everone deserves a home (whether they could afford one or not). Thus the… Read more »
tom, First, let me apologize for the length of this response. Your explanations are simplistic and wrongheaded in so many respects that it’s hard to know where to even start to address them. Tom you need help – “Democratic operatives”/”principled Republicans” (*gag/choke/spit*) You are out there!!! SCARY!!!
Next the socialist pinkos will be coming for you and McCarthy is nowhere around to protect you!!!
P&B. Don’t need McCarthy..we’ve got Glenn Beck!
Heh heh, that out to set you off again!
Sorrry. Your master plan to rewrite history has failed. NOTHING will change the FACT that W. Bush, the “decider”, was 100% in charge when the economy/banks blew up (and had been for 8 years).
Nice try though.
Bobbie Lee, watch this (and listen) and pay particularly close attention to what Clinton says at the end. Bush and the Republicans saw the problem but were thwarted from fixing it by the Democrats. There are more you tube videos regarding this if you want me to list them.

“I would suggest buying a home to build equity and take advantage of low interest rates and low housing prices”
Will you put that in writing and Guarantee it?
You must be a realtor.
@upthecreek-
No, I’m not realtor but I have common sense to not sit around and whine about what I don’t have and all the shoulda-woulda-couldas in my life.
I AM THE 53% of Americans who actually pay taxes. How many of the OWS are actually in that percentage? Maybe OWS protesters should actually pay taxes and help America out.
More Taxes! And the banks may take it from me! I like a more simplistic life. I will always rent.
BishopDude – I’m proud of you for paying your taxes. I too pay my taxes and I’m sure that many others of us who support the OWS movement do too. But you seem to miss the point, OWS is not about taxes it’s about Wall Streets actions that hurt everyone,… Read more »

I’m not talking numbers. I’m talking ethics and decent behavior. If each individual developed a conscience and wanted to contribute to society, we would be okay. If conscience doesn’t exist, regulation has to.

Absurd interpretation by a right wing news organization. How people label themselves has little to do with how they vote. Demonization of the word “liberal” completely skews the results of the poll.
What was the debt when Bush & co took over the White House? There was no debt! Tax relief for the rich and two unfunded wars is what led to the American debt.
