Subject: Aid to a Backpacker out of McGee Creek

On Wednesday, July 25, the Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue (SAR) Team responded to aid a 15-year-old backpacker who became ill.  A group of 10 backpackers from Oakland hiked up McGee Creek and camped below the Grass Lake trail junction.  The next morning, after breaking camp, the subject became ill with severe abdominal pain and could not continue.  Seven SAR Team members hiked in 4.5 miles and located the subject.  He was evacuated by wheeled litter to the McGee Creek trailhead where Mono County paramedics transported him to Mammoth Hospital for treatment.
