Bishop Fire Chief Joe Dell announced at the Bishop City Council meeting
that Fourth of July Celebrations, which have been held at the Bishop
Airport for sixty-eight years, is being moved to the Eastern Sierra Tri-
County Fairgrounds and Events Center. Dell noted that, with the future
arrival of commercial air service to the Bishop Airport that will require
upgrades to the facility, as new location for the fireworks had to be found.

Dell went on to say that “the city’s party, hosted by the City of Bishop
Parks and Recreation, will still take place at Bishop Park before moving
the celebration moves on over to the fairgrounds.”

The fairgrounds CEO, Jen McGuire, said “I’m excited about this event.
This event will be the biggest and best this town has ever seen with all
the participating organizations coming together, it will be very special.”

There will be quite a few traditional activities going on at the Fourth of
July celebration, along with new ones. “We will have an entire day of
food, crafts, a chili cookoff, games, live music, face painting, with
designated picnic and fireworks areas, and ice-cold beer before the
evening is capped with fireworks.

“I think it is going to be good for Bishop, says Bishop Mayor Laura
Smith. “We get to combine the event with the tribe, the fair, LADWP,
and Inyo County. It has also become more of an all -day celebration
now.”
