Press Release

Native Plant Society to Host Plant Sale on August 16

7-23-2025

Volunteers from the California Native Plant Society have been working hard all year to get the plants ready for this year’s annual plant sale. The sale will take place on Saturday, August 16th. The sale goes from 9-11a.m. (current members can start buying at 8:00a.m.) at the White Mountain Research Station, 3000 E. Line St. in Bishop.

Fall is a great time to plant natives in the Eastern Sierra.  With the summer heat hopefully diminishing, new plantings are not as stressed and are able to establish more quickly. They will grow large root systems that help them withstand the drying winds of our climate and many will flower the next spring and summer. All the plants have been grown from locally collected seed. The advantage natives have over non-native species is greater adaptability to our weather and are the preferred flowers for our native bees.

The plants range from beautiful Desert Willow trees to bushes like blue elderberry, and smaller showy plants like the heavenly blue and penstemons.  A full listing of available plants can be found on the Bristlecone CNPS website https://chapters.cnps.org/bristlecone/gardening-and-plant-sales/ two weeks before the sale. It is a good idea to arrive at the sale early as there can be limited numbers of some varieties.  This native plant society does take credit cards.

Plant prices are 6.00 for a half gallon pot and $9.00 for gallon pots and $11 for large tree pots.  Bring a box to carry your plants home in.

If you have any of the black plastic pots from last year’s sale we would love to recycle them for you.
