Mule Days 2020 CANCELLED

(Official Announcement below short article.)

One of the last largest events held in the Eastern Sierra, Mule Days 2020, has officially been cancelled as the result of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

On Sunday, April 5, in an Emergency Board Meeting by phone conference, 18DAA Board of Directors for the Tri-County Fairgrounds unanimously decided to cancel the popular Mule Days 2020 event  after hearing from the Mules Days Board that they felt it was time to cancel it and start looking toward to 2021.

The decision came as the Mule Days Board members and many community members were increasingly expressing serious doubts about whether the event should be given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which increasingly appears to be likely to last another 8-10 weeks, and that is an optimistic estimate. Local News Media (KIBS, Inyo Register, Sierra Wave) were on the conference call.

Conference calls for board meetings are unusual, but under Calif. Governor Gavin Newsom’s Executive Order, they have become an acceptable way for meetings, which by law have to be open the public, to be held out of concern for abiding with COVID-19 directives and orders from pubic health officials and other state officials under state of emergency protocols.

The Board for Mule Days had recommended the cancellation/postpone vote earlier.
