– Mono County Sheriff’s Department press release
The Mono County Sheriff’s Office has welcomed the newest member to our team! During the official Oath of Office, performed by Sheriff Ingrid Braun, Michael Moriarty was sworn-in as the new Undersheriff.
Undersheriff Moriarty was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology and moved to Los Angeles to join the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in January 1981. He had a successful career at LAPD rising in the ranks from police officer to commander. He spent the majority of his career in the investigative function in assignments such as Gang Enforcement, Homicide, Street and Major Narcotics, Internal Affairs and Public Corruption. His final assignment with LAPD was the Assistant Commanding Officer of the Detective Bureau in charge of the Specialized Detective Divisions and Crime Lab.
Undersheriff Moriarty comes to Mono County after spending the past several years as the Chief of the Bureau of Investigation for the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. He is a lifetime member of the California Narcotics Officers Association (CNOA); and a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the California District Attorneys Association and the California Gangs Investigators Association.
“Undersheriff Moriarty brings over 33 years of law enforcement experience to the Mono County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Braun. “He agrees with my vision of community policing and restoring the faith and trust of law enforcement back into our communities.”
From all of us at the Mono County Sheriff’s Office, please join us in welcoming Undersheriff Moriarty to our team!

Great one Rick.
There once was a sheriff named Obie,
Rob Weber was known as his toby,
they fired the girl,
and then in a whirl.
lost both of their jobs to a “probie” !
Get it ? got it…GOOD !
Big Rick O’Brien you are the bomb! Love i

Tom O
WRONG!
What happened to Weber?
Karma is what happened. I am positive it isn’t done calling either.
I am hopeful that Sheriff Braun and Undersheriff Moriarty (has a great ring to it!) will take a long hard look at this department from the top down! It is needed desperately! This would help this community heal from the prior administrations and maybe restore some faith from the community and show them what a professional Sheriff’s Department should be like.
Inyo County just locked up the base player for Black Sabbath , can Mono top that?
Sean Penn
HaHaHa, good one, but I thought Sean Penn got to pick Bridgeport’s Luxury Bed and Breakfast jail for something he did else where?
Trouble, I think you are right. It was just the first thing that popped into my head 🙂
Hard to top Charlie Manson at the Indy Jail and court house
Alright , you win!
Glad to see this new administration coming together! The new Elected Sheriff Braun now has an undersheriff with experience and an impressive resume! At least we know this undersheriff won’t pull a stress claim! Unlike the last one!
This is wonderful news. I have read his resume and it is very impressive! Just what Mono County needs. Ingrid made a great choice.
The first two cancers have been cleared from the department and now we have someone that has the know how to clear out the rest. He sure has his work cut out for him though. I am hopeful that between Moriarty and Ingrid they can restore some dignity and lawfulness to this department. It is shameful how it has been run in the past. Hopefully Mono County can soon be proud of their Sheriff’s Department.
I guess the unemployment wives didn’t like what I had to say! Lol
Remember you reap what you sow. Welcome to the rest of your lives.
