CHP officers revealed a few more details on the wreck that took out a power pole, transformer and wide areas of power in West Bishop early Sunday morning.

Originally, officers believed that the four passengers and driver of the pick-up truck involved in this wreck had fled the scene. Officers now say that further investigation revealed that some of the passengers remained on scene. Officers said that due to the danger of possible electrocution, the remaining passengers were located at a safe distance from the collision scene.

Earlier, the CHP said that 24-year-old Joseph Montoya was at the wheel of a 2007 Chevy pick-up at 3:30 Sunday morning. Officers said the young man was headed down South Barlow Lane approaching Sunset Drive at a high rate of speed when he made what they described as an “unsafe turning movement and lost control.” Montoya, said officers, drove off the roadway, struck a power pole and transformer box.

Montoya was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The investigation continues.
