The local high school volleyball season gets underway in a big way Thursday, with the return of the Mammoth Volleyball Invitational.

The three-day tournament will feature local teams, most kicking off their seasons at the Husky gymnasium.

Scheduled participating teams are Bishop, Lone Pine, Big Pine, Lee Vining, Mojave, Whittell and the Mammoth varsity and junior varsity teams.

Megan Guffey returns as head coach for the Mammoth Huskies, Keith Rainville is back with the Bishop Broncos, Rene Davis coaches the Big Pine Warriors and Mel Joseph is the head man for the Lone Pine Golden Eagles.

Games at the Mammoth Volleyball Invitational start Thursday at 3 p.m. and will go until about 7:30. Friday’s schedule starts at 2:30 p.m. and go to 7 p.m.

Saturday’s games begin at 8 a.m. with the tournament concluding about 5 p.m.
