On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at approximately 6:35 PM, officers responded to a report of a theft of a juvenile’s bike, which had just occurred outside of Vons. They immediately began a search of the area for the suspect, Jose Vega-Miranda. The suspect was located and arrested within ten minutes of the theft. Vega-Miranda was arrested on one felony charge of PC 487(A) Grand Theft in addition to one misdemeanor charge of HS 113770(A) Possession of a controlled substance and was booked into custody at the Mono County Jail.

Vega-Miranda allegedly committed this theft while out of custody on bail. He was previously arrested by MLPD Officers on September 8, 2024, along with Julian Gil Soto, on four felony charges and one misdemeanor charge including PC 182(A)(1) Conspiracy to commit a crime, PC 496(A) Receive stolen property, PC 530.5(A) Use credit under false pretenses, PC 484G heft by use of access card and HS 11364(A) Possession of unlawful paraphernalia. This was after both Vega-Miranda and Gil Soto allegedly used a stolen credit card to make several unauthorized purchases through the Town of Mammoth Lakes totaling over $2,000.00.

The Mammoth Lakes Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors to secure their belongings.

Criminal charges are merely allegations of criminal conduct. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent until the contrary is proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
