A Win for Restaurants
Governor Newsom has signed two new laws designed to help restaurant owners by cutting red tape and increasing operational flexibility. One bill (AB 592) allows open-kitchen restaurants to use folding doors or windows to expand outdoor dining; the other (AB 671) creates a faster path for small restaurants to retrofit spaces while maintaining safety standards. >>> Click here to read more

Judge Sides with CalChamber
A federal judge granted a preliminary injunction requested by the California Chamber of Commerce and the California Restaurant Association, blocking enforcement of Senate Bill (SB) 399 — a 2024 state law that sought to limit employer communications with workers on a variety of issues. The court agreed the law likely violates employers’ rights under the First Amendment. CalChamber said it was pleased the court recognized that SB 399 “sought to wrongly limit the speech of employers across California while exposing companies to new legal liabilities. ” >>> Click here for more information
