After weather and construction delays, Mammoth Town Staff plans to open the ice rink tonight at 6:30. While many enjoy skating on the frozen lakes and ponds here in the Eastern Sierra, its been a few years since the Town of Mammoth Lakes has offered a place to skate.ice_skater.jpg

The original plan was to open the ice rink on Christmas Eve, but that plan fell through. Town Communications Manager Stuart Brown reports that the ice rink was ready to go on Friday, but the town was hit with heavy snow. There was talk of opening on Tuesday, but this was bumped forward to Monday night.

Brown reports that hockey wont start until next week and the morning hours are reserved for school kids. This week the public skates run 11:30 to 2:30 during the day and 6:30 to 9:30 in the evening.

The first public skate starts tonight (Monday) at 6:30 and ends at 9:30. These same hours run all week. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children between the ages of 5 and 15. If you dont have skates you can rent a pair for $3.

The location of the skate park is next to the new library on Meridian Blvd. and opposite Mammoth High School.
