How the state budget mess will spill over into the Eastern Sierra remains unclear. Bishop Public Works Director David Grah reports that the money to finish up the Mac Iver Street project did come in, but how the state issues will affect other street improvement projects is yet to be seen.

Issues over money to pay for the Mac Iver Street extension led city staff to break the project into two phases. Grah reports that the money for the curbs, gutters and sidewalks on Mac Iver has come through, and the City will advertise for bids next month.

Further projects are planed for South Second Street, West Pine, North Third, Short, and Sneden streets.

Grah explained that the funds for these projects come from federal gas taxes which is administered by Caltrans and the Local Transportation Commission.

Five of the local projects go before the California Transportation Commission next month. Grah says that he expects the state budget to affect other local projects, but how is not yet clear.
