Bishop Lions announced Owens Valley High School Senior Kevin Glenn as the winner of the Zone Level student speakers contest, conducted recently at the VFW Hall in Bishop.  As winner of that contest, Glenn (above left with Bishop Lion Barb Smith) moved on to the Region 3 student speakers contest, speaking again on the subject for 2024-2025, “How does technology influence the ability for individuals to engage in interpersonal communication?”, where he achieved 1st Runner-Up status.

Bishop Lions would like to thank community members selected as Judges at the club and zone and region levels.  Those volunteers included:  Jessica Scida (Inyo County), Mary Mae Kilpatrick (retired NIH board member and past president), Inyo County Supervisor Jeff Griffiths, City of Bishop Secretary Robin Picken, retired BUHS teacher Howard Lehwald, John Camphouse and Bill Schuck (Bishop First United Methodist Church), Casey Jasaitis (Salvation Army), Inyo County District Attorney Dana Crom (1983 Bishop Lions student speakers contest winner at club-zone-region-area levels), and Inyo County Supervisor Jen Roeser.

For more information for high school students who might be interested in competing in the 2025-2026 student speakers contest series beginning at local level, please contact Lion Barb Smith (760-937-2272).  Students from the 4 high schools are encouraged to inquire and participate in the contests since public speaking skills, research on a selected topic, presentation of the student’s prepared speech before a Lion and general audience composed of faculty and family and friends, can lead to substantial scholarship benefits. ##
