ENGINE HOUSE REPORT
Annual maintenance of our historic Death Valley Brill Car has kept the Engine House maintenance crew busy the past few months. After all, our restored railcar is 98 years old this year and needs a fair amount of TLC.
Last year’s record heat forced us to cancel several of our scheduled summer rides. So, this year we are trying something new. Operator availability and operability permitting, we will schedule 2025 rides as follows:
February 15
March 22
April 19
May 25 and 26 (Memorial weekend)
June 21
Rides are 10:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. and tickets are good for the whole day. Docent talks for February 15 will focus on the roles of former Presidents Washington and Lincoln in shaping the West through the introduction of mules (Washington), and the support of railroads (Lincoln). For March 22nd, ticket holders will hear about the roles of women in mining and railroading.
The Laws Museum’s Board of Directors recently voted to reduce ticket fare for Brill Car rides. Adults (18 and over) ride for $8.00 and children four through 17, for $4.00. Children under three years of age ride free. Brill car rides are accessible, and pet friendly. Join us and bring your out-of-town guests for these special dates.
The Engine House will be open these dates as well, for those who want an update on our Slim Princess restoration, or who wants to learn more about railroad communications by operating our newly completed telegraph system.
