Saturday morning, the lifts at June Mountain Ski Resort start turning for the season. With the recent storms, plus snow left over from the October storms, Saturday is expected to be a good opener on a four to six foot base.

When we spoke to General Manager Carl Williams on Thursday he explained that the entire upper mountain will be open Saturday for groomed runs and tree skiing. June Mountain was very close to a complete top to bottom opening, but Williams says that the face settled over the course of the week. These runs, just above the parking lot, are very close, he says, but a bit more snow is needed.

That being said, the cat track is open so people can ski all the way back to their cars at the end of the day rather than take Chair One down.

June Mountain is known as the quieter of the two Eastern Sierra resorts, well loved by locals and visitors alike. Its so well loved that sometimes many want to keep the ski area quiet. That’s going to be tough this weekend, as there may be left over stashes of untracked powder up on the ski hill. Williams says that staff left Deer Bowl untracked for a few lucky skiers who get there early on Saturday.
