Judge Stephen Place seeks re-election to serve as Inyo County Superior Court Judge for another six years.

I currently serve Inyo County as Judge of the Superior Court.  I have held this position since 2018.  I was appointed to the position by the Governor of California, and I ran unopposed for election in 2020.  This election cycle is different – Attorney Gerard Harvey is running against me.  I am asking for your support, and your vote.

On June 2, 2026, Inyo County voters will have the choice of voting for Incumbent, Judge Stephen Place, or challenger, Attorney Gerard Harvey.  The winner of this race will serve as Judge for a six-year term – from 2027 through 2032.  During that six-year term, the winner of this race will make daily decisions on matters that have a significant impact on people’s lives, including, but not limited to:

• Criminal law – such as whether to grant probation to a Defendant, or impose custodial time (jail/prison) instead; whether a furlough should be granted to an inmate, and under what conditions.
• Family law – such as how parents will share custody and visitation of children; whether long-term spousal support should be paid after divorce, and how much.
• Juvenile law – whether children should be removed from a parent’s home because of a safety risk in the home.
• Probate law – whether a guardian should be appointed to care for a child over a parent’s objection; how will and trust disputes are resolved among competing family members.
• Civil law – whether a Plaintiff has proven a theory of liability, and what the damages amount should be.
• Restraining orders – whether a Petitioner has proven that there has been an incident of domestic violence or civil harassment, what orders should be made, and for how long.

In my seven years as Judge, I have made all of the decisions listed above.  I have proven that I have the skills and temperament to make these hard decisions.  Considered with my twenty-two years as a practicing attorney, I have proven that I have the work ethic, diligence, and preparedness, to work effectively on difficult matters every day.

I would be honored to serve as Judge for another six years.
