Join NIHD’s Dr. Stacey Brown for Skin Cancer 101

Northern Inyo Healthcare District (NIHD) is set to host its next Healthy Lifestyle Talk, focusing on “Skin Cancer 101: Types, Prevention, and Treatment Options in the Eastern Sierra.”
Dr. Stacey Brown, a veteran family medicine provider with NIHD’s Rural Health Clinic, will present the talk. The event will be held in person at NIHD’s Birch Street Annex, located at 2957 Birch Street in Bishop, near The Jill Kinmont Boothe School, on Thursday, August 1, at 6 p.m.

With 27 years of experience treating patients in the Eastern Sierra, Dr. Brown will bring his expertise to the community, addressing the unique challenges of skin cancer prevention in regions with year-round active outdoor lifestyles. Attendees can expect to learn about the different types of skin cancer, effective prevention methods, and the latest treatment options available.
Dr. Brown will also underscore the critical importance of regular skin checks and early detection. He will guide attendees on what to do if changes are noticed in existing moles, or if suspicious spots develop. Given the high exposure to sun in the Eastern Sierra, understanding these prevention and detection strategies is crucial for maintaining skin health.

NIHD’s Healthy Lifestyle Talks are part of the District’s ongoing effort to promote health and wellness through education. These presentations are free and open to the public and aim to provide valuable information to help community members lead healthier lives.

Please note NIHD will host this talk in person as opposed to the recent Zoom-based Healthy Lifestyle Talks. Be sure and plan to join NIHD at its Birch Street Annex this Thursday.
The next Healthy Lifestyle Talk will focus on back-to-school topics with Dr. Avery Neal of the Northern Inyo Associates Pediatrics team. NIHD records and posts its Healthy Lifestyle Talks to NIHD’s YouTube page for the convenience of potential viewers.
