James Kipp Poffley 07/10/1945 – 01/31/2026
James Kipp Poffley, was born to Harry and Louise (Fisher) Poffley on July 10, 1945 in San Angelo, Texas and passed away peacefully in Bishop, California on January 31, 2026.
He had a career in advertising that he was very proud of, but his true calling was to be an educator. He was a professor at Penn State University and went on to volunteer as an English language teacher at an orphanage in Luang Prabang, Laos. He cared deeply for the success of all of his students.
He was a lover of music, art, and fishing. He was a regular donor to philanthropic organizations such as Doctors Without Borders, ACLU and Heifer International. He wanted everyone in the world to have access to food, healthcare, and safety.
James will be cremated and his ashes laid to rest in the Spring of this year at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. He will be re-united with the love of his life Jean Carol Cecil who passed in 1988. James is survived by his two children, Sam and Liz who will miss him dearly.
