Board of Supervisors Press Release on In-Person meetings to resume.

The Inyo County Board of Supervisors will meet in-person in Independence this coming Tuesday, marking the first time the Board has met for a meeting in the Board of Supervisors Chambers since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chambers will be open to staff as well but will not immediately be accessible to the public pending ongoing review of State and Federal guidelines. The public can watch and participate in the Board meetings via Zoom, an online video conferencing platform that the County has been utilizing since March 2020. The Board will continue offering Zoom access to meetings indefinitely in order to provide a more convenient means for public participation.

Board of Supervisors meetings have been held as online Zoom webinars since March 24, 2020. To minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus and in keeping with his initial stay-at-home order, Governor Newsom issued Executive Orders last year that temporarily suspended certain requirements of the Brown Act related to teleconferencing. This allowed entities such as the Board of Supervisors to continue conducting the people’s business out in the open without compromising the health and safety of participants and members of the public.

Should the Board or individual Board members need to participate remotely on any given Tuesday, they may continue to do so for another three months without having to teleconference from an advertised, public location. Governor Newsom extended the Brown Act suspensions on June 14 via
Executive Order N – 08-21, which allows government entities continued flexibility with regard to teleconferenced meetings through September 30, 2021.

zoomThe Tuesday, July 6 Board of Supervisors meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. The public can access and participate in the meeting via https://zoom.us/j/868254781.

Anyone wishing to make either a general public comment or a comment on a specific agenda item prior to the meeting or as the item is being heard, may do so either in writing or by utilizing the Zoom “hand-raising” feature when appropriate during the meeting (the Chair will call on those who wish to speak). Written public comment, limited to 250 words or less, may be emailed to the Assistant Clerk of the Board at [email protected]. Comments may or may not be read aloud, but all comments will be made a part of the record. Separate emails are requested for comments on more than one agenda item.
