– Press release

Spring is abloom, and the growing season is in full swing. Throughout the Eastern Sierra, birds sing merrily and butterflies dance from each sweet, fresh blossom to the next. In celebration of this time of growth and discovery, Eastern Sierra Land Trust invites you to “ring in the spring” at our annual GardenFest!

This free, family-friendly event will take place from 3 – 6pm on May Day, Friday May 1st, in our (new!) office backyard at 250 N. Fowler St. in Bishop. Green thumbs of all ages – the novice and seasoned alike – are invited to join in the fun.

Calling Green Thumbs of all ages: ESLT’s annual GardenFest will take place on Friday, May 1. Join in the fun and celebrate spring on the Eastside with us!

There will be plenty to see and do at this year’s GardenFest:

Tomato, pepper, and other vegetable plant starts will be offered for sale, as well as a variety of native plants brought by the California Native Plant Society.
Curious about how to get your garden growing in this time of drought? Roberta Lagomarsini will be representing the Master Gardeners of Inyo and Mono Counties, and will share tips and techniques on installing drip irrigation.

Representatives from two different CSA groups will be answering questions about local and organic foods, and everyone will have the opportunity to sign up for a weekly produce box.

Bring last year’s unused seeds to trade for new varieties in the Seed Swap.
Are you more of a butterfly or a bee? Embrace your inner pollinator: spring-themed face painting will be available for kids of all ages!

GardenFest will also offer opportunities to learn about our Eastside Pollinator Garden Project and how to transform your backyard or garden into a pollinator sanctuary. Now in its second year, this project is bringing native birds, bees, and butterflies to gardens throughout the Eastern Sierra.

These pollinators play a vital role in the beauty and productivity of the region: without them, there would be no new growth. At GardenFest, join in as Jaime Pawelek from the UC Berkeley Urban Bee Lab answers all your buzzing questions about this pivotal role that pollinators play. To sweeten the afternoon even more, Bishop Nursery will be offering a free honey sampling!
