The Inyo County Search and Rescue team had a busy weekend. After an all day rope rescue training at the Windy Wall in the Buttermilk Country, volunteers were called out to Death Valley National Park to help an injured hiker.

Carma Roper with the Sheriffs Department reports that at about 9:00 pm Saturday night, dispatch was contacted with word that two hikers near Last Chance Peak needed help because of an injury.

Roper says that the sister of one of the hikers had received a phone call from Todd Rapier who told her that Loreen Rapier had hurt her knee and couldnt hike out.

Eight SAR team members responded and made the drive to the Last Chance Range near Eureka Valley in Death Valley National Park. The team members found the two hikers, administered first aid, and helped the two to their vehicle by about 3:30 am on Sunday morning.
