Mono Lake Ranger District:

 Campgrounds open: Big Springs, Aspen (closes 10/11).

Closing on 10/16: Reversed Creek, Gull Lake, June Lake, Oh Ridge, Aerie Crag (overflow, no campfires/water).

Closing on 10/31: Silver Lake, Lower Lee Vining.

Closing on 11/15: Glass Creek.

 Campgrounds closed:  Big Bend, Ellery Lake, Junction, Hartley Springs, Saddlebag Lake, Sawmill Walk-in, Tioga Lake, Moraine, Saddlebag Trailhead Group, Obsidian Flat Group, Upper and Lower Deadman.

Note: Silver Lake Boat launch is still under construction due to delays in asphalt equipment availability. Estimated to be complete by the last week of October.

Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center closes on October 17.

Mono Lake Ranger District:

Campgrounds Open: Twin Lakes (closes 10/16), New Shady Rest (closes 10/30).

Campgrounds Closed: Old Shady Rest, Pine City, Pine Glen and Pine Glen Group, Lake Mary, Lake George, Coldwater, Sherwin Creek, Reds Meadow, Agnew Meadows, Agnew Meadows Horse, Agnew Meadows Group, Pumice Flat, Pumice Flat Group, Minaret Falls, Upper Soda Springs.

Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center will remain open during the fall and winter season five days per week, but subject to change.

Roads: Reds Meadow Road closes on October 11. Until then, expect up to 30 minute delays as crews work to clear trees to prepare for 2023 reconstruction of the road. Minaret Vista kiosk will remain open until then to help manage traffic and provide information.

White Mountain Ranger District:

Campgrounds Open: Mosquito Flat Backpacker

Closing 10/16: Pine Grove and Upper Pine Grove, East Fork, Palisade Group.
Closing 10/24: Big Meadow, Iris Meadow, Aspen Group.
Closing 10/25: North Lake, Sabrina, Bishop Park, Intake 2 and Intake 2 walk-in, Forks, Bitterbrush, Four Jeffrey, Upper Sage, Big Pine Canyon Group – Clyde and Palisade Glacier, Mountain Glen, Big Trees.

Estimated to close end of October: Grandview, Cedar Flat Group.

Closing 10/31: Convict LakeMcGee Creek, French Camp, Tuff.

Campgrounds Closed: Rock Creek Lake, Rock Creek Group, Willow, Table Mountain Group, Sage Flat.

White Mountain Public Lands Information Center closes on October 29.

Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest – Schulman Grove Visitor Center closes on November 12 (weather dependent).

Mount Whitney Ranger District

Campgrounds open: Whitney Portal, Whitney Portal Trailhead, Whitney Portal Group, Cottonwood Lakes Walk-In, Cottonwood Pass Walk-In, Horseshoe Meadow Equestrian, Kennedy Meadows with no services (no toilets/ water/trash cans/fee).

Closing 10/31: Onion Valley, Upper and Lower Grays Meadow, Lone Pine.

Eastern Sierra Visitor Center: Open Thursday through Monday, 8:00 am to 4:30 am. Closed Monday October 10 for Indigenous Peoples Day.

Other important items of note

 

  • The Inyo National Forest and Bishop Bureau of Land Management (BLM) remain in Stage I fire restrictions. That means campfires are only allowed in designated, developed recreation sites. Visitors camping anywhere else (dispersed camping or wilderness backpacking) may use a portable stove or lantern using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel, with a valid California Campfire permit.
