Press Release Oct. 15, 2020 Inyo National Forest

The Inyo National Forest has been providing free personal use firewood permits this year and the fuelwood season is being honored through October 2020. Tags that have been issued through September and will be honored through October.

For people who wish to obtain a fuelwood permit, requests must be received by October 23. This allows adequate time for Forest Service staff to process the requests and mail the permits.

Methods for requesting an Inyo NF Personal Use Fuelwood Permit:

Each request shall include your name, physical address, mailing address, phone number, driver’s license number and number of cords requested. Permits will be returned to requesters by hardcopy mail.

All woodcutters are required to hold a free use permit and follow the associated regulations within that permit, along with an Inyo National Forest Personal Use Fuelwood Map. A total of up to 6 cords of firewood for personal use is permitted per calendar year. A cord is the amount of tightly piled wood in a stack four feet high by four feet wide by eight feet long.

As a reminder, it is the responsibility of the permit holder to check and be aware of the firewood cutting restrictions in effect. Firewood cutting restriction information can be obtained by phoning 760-873-2555 at any time.

Supplies of firewood can be found at Reversed Peak, Bald Mountain road and Clark Fire Forest Management Areas located on the fuelwood map.
