More than three months ago, a brawl broke out at Rusty’s Bar in Bishop. Police confirmed two Mammoth Lakes Police Officers were involved. Inyo District Attorney lawyers still have not concluded the investigation into that incident.inyo_courthouse

The two Mammoth officers were put on administrative leave after the bar fight. There is still no conclusion to the investigation. Inyo District Attorney Art Maillet said that Deputy DA Mark Johnson had completed work on the case and was in the middle of reviewing tapes when he had to deal with a felony trial.

So, the wait continues.

The trial involving Deputy DA Johnson deals with allegations of sexual assault by a Minnesota student teacher, Brice Hansen. The victim is a 17-year-old student. The two were part of a University of Minnesota field trip to Death Valley.

To those who have asked about charges against 20 year old Dave Smith, DA Maillet said that Smith, one of five defendants in the Lone Pine assault case, faces charges of burglary, battery, conspiracy to commit a crime, and receiving stolen property.

Smith was originally booked in jail under the additional charge of attempted murder. The DA has not filed that charge. He did say the investigation into the case continues.

On rumors of a female juvenile being arrested in connection with this case, the Sheriff’s Department said that is just a rumor.
