According to The Sheet, Kmart is still leasing the old, old Kmart building. Anybody know why everyone has been saying for years that Vons has the lease to keep out other grocery stores? In Vons defense, they have the cleanest, most well stocked grocery in Bishop, plus their prices have come down since they have to compete with Smart and Final and Grocery outlet. Sierra Wave, you should do some investigating here and let us know.
P.S. Inyo County also paid rent on the old, old Kmart before they got their new building.
The Kmart building is owned by Denver Gardens and leased by Safeway. Safeway pays a ton of money to keep competition out of the area and that’s why it sits empty. Thanks to Grocery Outlet and Smart and Final there’s enough other places to keep the pantry full without subsidizing Von’s crooked monopoly.
Kmart holds the lease on that building, I just found that out reading an article in The Sheet. Wonder why all this time everyone says Vons was leasing it to keep out competition?

Interesting that with two incumbent supervisors – Roeser and Griffiths – being challenged in next March’s election we start getting self-serving press releases about what the Board of Supervisors did during a routine meeting.
Thus, it seems those two are using public funds to launch and support their campaigns, which in my view is corruption, pure and simple.
And why both should be voted out of office!
(Not that there weren’t already good reasons they should both be replaced).
These meeting recaps have been appearing for almost a year. I, for one, appreciate them. As a taxpayer, I want to know what services and programs my money is helping to pay for and what goes on at meetings that I can’t attend. It’s called being an informed citizen – which I personally find better than jumping to wild conclusions based on willful ignorance. But you do you.
Any details on the good reasons they should be replaced? There’s value in continuity also and though I may disagree with them on some things, I am not aware of any disqualifying action by either.

The Sheet is wrong. Safeway leases the old old Kmart.
Being how there are only three kmarts left in the US I doubt they have a stake in that building currently.

They haven’t mowed my lawn in months.
