INYO COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES

PRELIMINARY ACTION

1. Call to Order – The meeting was called to order at 3:30 pm.
2. Roll Call/Quorum – Roll call established a quorum with the following members present:
   • Chris Langley, President
   • Joe Profita, Member
   • Staff: Barry D. Simpson
   • David Hefner, Vice President
   • George Lozito, Member
   • Elyse Morrison
   • Jessica Tex, Absent
3. Approval of the Agenda – D.Hefner moved, seconded by G.Lozito to approve the agenda. Motion carried 4-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT SESSION

1. There were no questions submitted via email by members of the public prior to this meeting, and there were no comments from the public during the meeting.

PUBLIC HEARING

A. Motion to Open Public Hearing – J.Profita moved, seconded by G.Lozito to open the Public Hearing. Motion carried 4-0. 1. Textbook and Instructional Materials for 2025-2026– Barry Simpson gave a summary of the textbooks and materials used by the students and staff of JKBS. 2. Public Input– No members of the public were present. 3. Motion to Close the Public Hearing and Return to Regular Session– G.Lozito motioned, seconded by D.Hefner. Motion carried 4-0.

PRESENTATION

1. North Star Services – Meredith Schmitz, Vincent Miller, and the entire North Star counseling team were present. Each team member introduced themselves and shared some personal information, including why they chose this profession. The North Star team shared a slide presentation which included the new North Star room additions to the school spaces.

ACTION SESSION

1. Consent Agenda– Approval of the consent agenda item – August 14 Minutes- D.Hefner moved, seconded by J.Profita. Motion carried 4-0.
2. Curriculum: A. Approval of Standards Aligned Textbooks and/or Instructional Materials for grades 9-12 in English Language Arts, Mathematics, History-Social Science and Science for the 2025-2026 School Year. J.Profita motioned, seconded by G.Lozito. Motion carried 4-0. B. Approve Resolution 2025-06 for Sufficiency of Textbook and/or Instructional Materials and Compliance with Education Code 60119 for 2025-2026 and Certification of Provision of Standards Aligned Instructional Materials. J.Profita moved, seconded by G.Lozito. Motion carried 4-0.
3. Business: A. Approve the Proposition 98, Arts and Music in Schools Funding 2024-2025 Annual Report. Aimee Gonzalez and Kat Duncan provided a brief summary and discussion of Prop 98 funding and how funds are used. D.Hefner moved to approve, seconded by J.Profita. Motion carried 4-0.
