News release from Mammoth Lakes Fire Department
Kidde has recently issued a recall for fire extinguishers with plastic handles and certain push button “pindicator” extinguishers, due to failure to discharge and the nozzle becoming clogged, which has caused at least one death.
In addition, the extinguisher may require excessive force to activate and the nozzle can detach with enough force to pose an impact injury. The recall dated was effective November 2, 2017.
This recall covers approximately 37.8 million units, 137 different models and covers plastic handle models with date codes between January 1, 1973 and August 15, 2017. The list of models within these date codes can be found at https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2017/kidde-recalls-fire-extinguishers-with-plastic-handles-due-to-failure-to-discharge-and#.Wfr3FggcNkQ
