On opening day many people will want to head into the high country to use the newly opened roads for ice-fishing and even skiing, particularly considering the new snow this week.
In Inyo County, Bob Brown with the Road Department reports that Horsehoe Meadows Road south of Lone Pine will not be open in time for the trout opener, but most other roads into the Sierra are expected to be open by Fishmas, such as Whitney Portal Road, Onion Valley, the Glacier Lodge Road and Pine Creek. More snow is expected this week, but the South Lake Road should be open to Parchers Resort. The dirt road to North Lake is not expected to be open.
In Mono County, the roads to Twin Lakes, Virginia Lakes, Lundy, McGee, and Rock Creek to the Resort are all expected to be plowed out and ready by the weekend.
