Harold Reuter, born on February 20, 1931, in Santa Barbara, passed away on October 28, 2024, in Bishop, after a long, full life, filled with family and friends.

Harold moved to Moorpark, CA with his parents and siblings in 1945. Upon graduating from Moorpark Memorial Union High School in 1948, Harold followed in the family footsteps by beginning his career in house painting. He then joined the US Navy and proudly served for three years, where he gained experiences and created memories that he talked about for years to come.

On November 9, 1952, Harold married Joan Mosher, and had three children, daughters Patti and LeighAnn, and son Rick Reuter. The family lived in Moorpark, enjoying camping trips around California, and spending time with family and friends.

In 1970, Harold started his own painting business, which remained successful for many years. He was extremely proud of the work he did and was always happy to tell you “I painted that house,” or “I painted that building” when passing by some of his work.

In 1983, Harold married his second wife Carol McDonald, and they remained by each other’s sides until Carol’s passing in 2020. After “retiring” and moving to Bishop in 1990, Harold continued to paint in Bishop and Mammoth until his knees and back wouldn’t allow it anymore. He was then able to spend more time fishing with his friends and grandkids. Harold and Carol were proud members of the Elks Lodge, and participated in many events throughout Bishop, including helping to run the Blake Jones Fishing Derby every year.

Harold was predeceased by his brother Paul, sister Martha, daughter LeighAnn, and his wife Carol. He will be remembered by his daughter Patti, son Rick and his wife Terri, and sister Mathea. Also, by his grand-children Erika Bruce, Kristina Young, and Danny Reuter, great-grandchildren Arianna Bruce, Wyatt Young, and Rex Reuter, and great-great-granddaughter little Juniper Karr.

Harold will also be remembered by his many, many friends in Bishop. The friendships he made there, at The Elks Lodge, La Casita, and the VFW kept him going throughout the years including the jokes of who was better the Navy or Army and such punch jokes. He rarely missed an afternoon at the VFW, and if he did, they came looking for him! He cherished his time spent with his friends who also became caregivers and he never passed up an opportunity to talk about how well they took care of him.

Celebration of Life will be Saturday April 12 at Noon at the line Street Cemetery for a dedication section 4-14-26. Immediately following at 12:30 over at the VFW for cocktails and a Pot Luck with a gathering of friends and family for Harold.
