Free entrance on Veterans Day

DEATH VALLEY, Calif. – Entrance to Death Valley National Park will be free on Veterans Day. A temporary shallow lake at Badwater Basin and an astronomy program make this an ideal time to visit.

All National Park Service (NPS) sites will waive entrance fees on Saturday, November 11 to honor Veterans Day. Parks will still charge camping fees.

The park’s main attractions are open but many secondary roads are still closed due to flood damage from the remnants of Hurricane Hilary. The unprecedented rainfall created a temporary lake in Badwater Basin, which park rangers expect to last a few more weeks.

The Las Vegas Astronomical Society and NPS park rangers will host an astronomy program Friday and Saturday nights. Park rangers present walks and talks on a variety of topics daily until mid-April.
