He was arrested last Friday. Sparks Police Sergeant Greta Woyciehowsky confirmed that Ouimet confessed to the killing of his estranged wife’s two-year-old child and her 62-year-old grandmother.

According to the Reno Gazette Journal, Ouimet’s estranged wife, Danielle Lawrence, had returned home from work and found the bodies. Other reports say Sparks Police went to the home on a report of a stabbing and a fire and discovered the dead woman and child.

Reports said that Ouimet is being held in the special watch unit for inmates closely monitored for suicide attempts. Reports also said that the woman and child had been stabbed to death. Ouimet allegedly set a toy on fire after the stabbings.

A woman near the scene had called police to report Ouimet broke inside with a knife. She gave police Ouimet’s vehicle description and license plate number.

Ouimet was later arrested at his Reno home and jailed on two counts of murder, arson, attempted burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.

Reports had circulated locally that Justin Ouimet may have had trouble with the law when he lived in Mammoth Lakes. Police Chief Dan Watson said that he does have an arrest record in Mammoth as an adult some five years ago.

Justin is the son of Jim Ouimet of Mammoth Lakes.
