Floyd Gene Piper, Jr. entered eternal life December 18, 2024 at the age of 51.
Floyd, better known as “Bub”, was born May 20, 1973 in San Bernardino, California to Floyd Gene Piper, Sr. and Alverna Mae Piper. He was an enrolled Bishop Paiute Tribal Member who graduated from Bishop Union High School and spent the majority of his life in the Owens Valley. He believed in the gospel of Jesus Christ and held strong to his faith in his daily life.
From a young age Floyd developed a passion for sports and weight-lifting, he created lifelong friendships through these hobbies and competed in numerous tournaments. Through weightlifting and fitness, he inspired many people to live a healthy lifestyle and learn about nutrition. In sports, Bub became a mentor and coach in the community and to youth, especially for his daughter Justice. He devoted countless moments encouraging and teaching her skills in basketball, soccer, and softball. This bond created a lifetime of special memories between them. This passion for sports continued on to coaching high school level basketball teams as well. Floyd’s ability to make sports fun while teaching valuable lessons will always be remembered as he impacted so many people.
During his lifetime Bub owned two businesses; Sports Edge on Main Street, showcasing his love of all things fitness and sports and Tru Sheds on the Rez, highlighting his building skills. He was a carpenter by trade and craftsman who enjoyed spending his time designing, creating, and building his own custom works for customers and family. Some of his most cherished pieces were building his daughter a desk for college, a book tree for his grandsons, and beautiful pine caskets for his sister Desi and brother Preston.
Without having any formal training Bub was a talented self-taught drummer, playing any hour of the day or night with his brother Darrick and anyone else he could find to join him, including friends and at church. He always had a full drum set to play his heavy metal music and played it as loud as he could on his speakers.
With his quiet nature and strong build Floyd could seem reserved, but once you knew him, Bub was the first to crack a joke. He didn’t take life too seriously and he loved to make people laugh. He was funny, and always making a silly face in pictures or trying to hide from the camera. He was the kind of Dad and Uncle who was always making you laugh or tickling you until you cried.
Floyd’s proudest moments were attending his eldest daughter’s graduation from college and seeing his youngest daughter off to college and preparing them both for their trips abroad while they were in high school. Watching them both become mothers and his role as Togo to his three grandsons gave him happiness and pride. The moments he shared with them filled him with joy.
Floyd is survived by his Daughters, Janessa Marie De La Riva and Justice Mae Piper; Grandson’s, Ion Jackson, Koa Jackson, and Tongobi Houlden; Father, Floyd Piper Sr; Siblings, Reggie Saubel, Tammy Spoonhunter, Darrick Piper and Troy Piper.
