Sage Fire Update

Bishop, Calif., November 7, 2025 –
The Sage Fire, burning southeast of Mono Lake, near Sentinel Meadow is holding at 260 acres and is 30 percent contained. The fire is burning in a remote area in steep and rugged terrain composed of Jeffrey pine, lodgepole pine, aspen, sage, and mountain mahogany.

Firefighters utilized natural barriers as well as hand line to contain the fire. Those control lines were burned over the course of several days to ensure the fire stayed within the lines during the high winds the area received the past two days.

Fire crews will now focus on mop up operations that will continue through next week. Interior fuels that are still burning will produce smoke that may be visible from Highway 395 and Highway 120 East.

There are no road closures in effect, but recreationalists should be aware that firefighter equipment will be in the area and that caution should be used when driving near the fire.

Resources currently assigned to the incident:

  • 1 Type 3 helicopter
  • 4 Hand crews
  • 5 Engines
  • 2 Water tenders

Evacuations are not issued.

This will be the last update unless there are significant changes.
