The weather system that blew in over the week-end left at least a foot of new snow on Mammoth Mountain and more in many places. As Barbara Richter of Mammoth Lakes put it, it looked like January and felt as cold.

While Santa Ana winds blustered through Southern California, predictions indicated more wind for the High Sierra and a warming trend. For those not quite ready to accept winter, a reprieve was expected.

One way or the other, the blanket of snow on Mammoth Mountain means a good start toward opening day in November.
