Information Re: Cass-Shelter Dog from Cori Stearns, President, Eastern Sierra Dog Rescue

For those of you who walk dogs at the Inyo County Animal Shelter, you may wonder where Cass is.  Unfortunately, Cass was put down yesterday afternoon.

Eastern Sierra Dog Rescue worked diligently to provide Cass a new home that was acceptable to the shelter supervisor, but was unable to do that in the limited time given.  The supervisor’s mind was made up so, really, there was no hope for Cass.

Cass was advertised on the Inyo County website as an adoptable dog.  A volunteer paid for her ads in the Inyo Register (last one printed on 9/16/2025), and ESDR posted her on our poster and Facebook page.

The shelter isn’t known for owning their actions, and I feel it’s important for the community to know the truth.  You may be told “she is no longer here” or “she was adopted.”  The truth is, she was put down.

Eastern Sierra Dog Rescue has worked for truth and transparency when it comes to situations like these, and we will continue.

Thank you to the volunteers who worked with Cass and showed her love and support.  May she rest in peace.

Cori Stearns, President

Eastern Sierra Dog Rescue
