The Owens Valley will have a couple of big football games Friday night, one featuring a No. 1-ranked team.

The Bishop Broncos will try to get their first win of the season, hosting Ontario Christian at John Schwab Field (7 p.m. varsity kickoff). Bishop dropped out of the top 10 in the East Valley Division poll following its 32-6 loss to Truckee, while Ontario Christian, playing its opener, is No. 8.

But bragging rights for the early season in the Owens Valley will be up for grabs when top-ranked Big Pine travels to Lone Pine in 8-man Hi-Lo League action.

The Warriors are No. 1 in the first CIF-SS 8-man Division II poll of the season, released earlier this week. Big Pine scored a dramatic, final-minute comeback victory over No. 3 Rolling Hills Prep in the Warriors’ opener last Saturday.

After Rolling Hills Prep scored with less than a minute to play, Big Pine’s Rusty Tillemans returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and the Warriors held on for a 42-39 victory.

Tillemans also had 87 yards receiving, 14 tackles on defense, a blocked punt for a safety and a fumble recovery.

Warrior quarterback David Seymour was 11-of-19 passing for a 253 yards and three touchdowns. Chase Colving had four receptions for 116 yards and two TDs, with 96 yards rushing and one TD.

Big Pine coach Mark Tillemans also received solid efforts from Skylar Amisone, Jose Limas, Dustin Newman, Colton Carrington, Luis Rico, Mikey Mason and Eric Birmingham.

Lone Pine’s Golden Eagles will playing their season-opener. Lone Pine joins the Hi-Lo League this season. The tough league features not only No. 1 Big Pine, but also No. 5-ranked Trona.
