Districtwide Lockdown Drill on Fri 10/3

Using ActVnet: Connecting First Responders, Schools, and Families

October 2, 2025

Dear BUSD Families,

Tomorrow, Fri 10/3, all BUSD campuses will be conducting a brief lockdown drill utilizing the ActVnet platform. There are a variety of helpful safety features in ActVnet, including messaging, attendance tracking, integrated camera systems, and site mapping that school staff will be using alongside local law enforcement. Various first responders and local law enforcement officials will be on campus during and after the drill.

While necessary, we know lockdown drills can be stressful or upsetting for individuals of all ages. It’s extremely important to us that students, parents, and staff feel safe and comfortable at school. Here are some simple tips you can share with your student ahead of the lockdown drill:

Reassure them that the drill is just practice, not because there’s danger.

Let them know it’s normal to feel a little nervous, and that practicing helps everyone stay safe.

Remind them to share any worries with a trusted adult (teacher, counselor, or you).

Get them to school on time so they don’t miss the instructions.

After the drill, ask how they felt and listen—reassurance goes a long way.

Thank you for your continued support of our schools’ safety efforts.

Sincerely,

Katie Kolker

BUSD Superintendent
