PRESS RELEASE
DeDecker Grant Recipients Share Findings!
White Mountain Research Center.
August 20th, 2025, 7:00 pm.
On August 20, the Bristlecone Chapter of the California Native Plant Society will be hosting a presentation from our 2024 DeDecker Grant recipients, where the students will discuss their work from last year. The event will take place at the White Mountain Research Center at 3000 E. Line Street, Bishop and starts at 7:00PM.
Matthew Yamamoto will share notable finds with “Mysteries in the Mountains: The Flora of the McGee Creek Watershed.” Charles Boissavy has been diving into the “Phylogeny and Taxonomy of the Latifolia clade of Eriogonum with Emphasis on Eriogonum nudum,” and will educate us on the relationships of some of our local buckwheats. Allison Autry, “Assessing Genetic Diversity of Disjunct Populations of Spiranthes infernalis (Ash Meadows ladies’ tresses, Orchidaceae) in the Great Basin” has visited this rare orchid in the Owens Valley, Ash Meadows, and Railroad Valley, and will show us what she has found to date.
Please join us to support these hard-working students and to hear about all the interesting botanical research being done in our area!
The Bristlecone Chapter of CNPS, founded by Mary DeDecker and other native plant enthusiasts in 1982, is named for the most aged of the world’s trees. We are one of 36 statewide chapters working to protect and celebrate California’s native plants. We invite you to get to know us at our meetings, field trips, plant sales, and other fun events!
