A short memorial gathering is planned in honor and remembrance of Deb Murphy, a longtime local reporter for The Inyo Register and Sierra Wave Radio News. Deb Murphy, passed away last month at her home in Big Pine. The remembrance gathering will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10th, at the Big Pine Saddle Club. Anyone who knew and appreciated her work is invited to attend.

Deb was a strong supporter of her local community of Big Pine and all the communities of the Eastern Sierra. She covered topics, events, and issues in both Inyo and Mono counties ranging from local sports to general news. She covered well as many local elections and was especially well -informed on water issues.
Deb was often seen at many events sitting quietly with her reporter’s notebook, diligently “scribbling” notes during meetings and then taking people aside afterwards for comments. Deb had a degree in Journalism and it showed in her work.
Sadly, at her death, Deb had no living family members. She was also intensely private in her personal life, largely keeping to herself and a few close friends which makes it difficult to write about her life. She loved her dog, Bernie, who is currently up for adoption at the County Animal Shelter. Her other passion was for horses. Her horse, Sky, has been watched over by Big Pine Saddle Club members since her passing and has already been adopted by someone in Ridgecrest.
