Fact: There are to many people that are gathering publicly without masks and distancing, we see it all the time. No one is enforcing the laws and rules. The majority of irresponsible gatherings are by locals and non-locals. As to what has all ready been stated in other reply’s and… Read more »
News alert. Guess what? A few years ago my mother-in-law fell and was sent to the ER. When we got to the hospital she was on a gurney in the hallway. The ER was full, it was this time of year but many years before Covid. ERs are historically overcrowded… Read more »
Very sorry about your mother and your plight, but at the same time I have to point out that you have highlighted the very issue. We are all feeling the pinch, it is really tough right now but please try to understand that nobody is singling you or your business… Read more »
So hey, Mammoth Local – you claim the restrictions on non-essential business is “not scientific”. So where did your get your degree in epidemiology? And could you explain to the rest of us what exactly is not “scientific” about minimizing contact between people while a new, extremely contagious, sometimes deadly… Read more »
We apparently not capable of stopping the spread based on the latest data. Do we surrender to the virus, do we allow government to dictate how we should function or do we fight with our intestinal fortitude and defeat the evil forces. It is up to us to make difficult… Read more »
I have a lot of laundry and dishes to do. Probably best if I stay home and wear a mask to buy groceries. Fighting can cause injuries and hospitals are overwhelmed.
Thank you for the update. Happy to oblige staying home this holiday and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ while contemplating the plan of salvation. After all, compassion for others is the foundation of that message. Peace and love!
Me and my wife were refused covid testing at the Toiyabe clinic in Bishop. This week you have to be Native American. This wasn’t the case last week. Is there any free testing for the rest of us?
Project Baseline has free testing at the fairgrounds
“My wife and I…” Sorry, it was bothering me.
I had some grammar issues in high school. A friend of mine said she’d help me correct them if I could take constructive criticism and not get mad at her. I agreed, and appreciate her concern and effort to this day.
We can thank MMSA for our high covid numbers. There’s still to many tourist here.
They need the money from their 190 dollar lift tickets.. if you think mammoth is still too crowded you should see Tahoe area.
I’m sure you have all seen the scary numbers of new cases. Inyo register has a short write up saying the county is pleading with people to be responsible. Again, Inyo county health dept where are you? You have not said a peep to the public, show some leadership or… Read more »
There’s one guy at the top who has shown a TOTAL lack of leadership. And You’re 100% correct about these being “un-presidented” times .
How are we not in purple with all these new cases? More concerning, Inyo county is asking people to come in for jury duty during this time. Are they nuts? Inyo county health dept. needs to start doing their jobs and protecting the community, not asking them to go sit… Read more »
No one has mentioned this, but it is way past the time for us and our Hispanic community to acknowledge the reality that about 60% of new infections in Inyo and Mono are from our brothers and sisters in this ethnic group. Hope I don’t sound prejudice, but the stats… Read more »
Americans lack of empathy are infecting and killing each other. Maybe this will be a wake up call for Inyo to take this seriously. We have tools to prevent this, a mask and not grouping together. The dark winter is here. Come on Inyo, step up! We cant afford to… Read more »
Found some interesting information today. https://www.statista.com/statistics/710488/staffed-beds-in-us-hospitals-by-state/. It would appear that California has just under 75,000 staffed hospital beds, some specialized, for around 39,000,000 people. Does that strike anyone else out there as being totally inadequate? Throw in not enough PPE, and working doctors and nurses into the ground as well.… Read more »
Keep hearing that Mammoth Hospital won’t release data such as number of patients etc to local news, but somehow the LA Times gets the info. See here for Mono County https://www.latimes.com/projects/california-coronavirus-cases-tracking-outbreak/mono-county/
Any information on the new death in Mono County
Medical authorities do not release that information as a general rule for confidentiality and legal reasons, generally citing HIPAA regulations. The only way to get this type of information is to get the official death certificate from the Coroner’s Office, which in this case is actually the Mono County Sheriff/Coroner.… Read more »
Completely disagree. Of course they can’t give out the person’s name, however, there is a lot of information that can and should bed released, such as town they lived in, demographic information, and since the county is very good at contact tracing, they should also release information pertaining to possible… Read more »
sugarmags, 3rd case was over 90 yrs of age.
props to them….got to be a hearty person to live in Mono County in you 90’s!
Does anyone know when/where the 16th Inyo death came from?
Well lets see, a bunch of 18 to 40 year olds packed into dormitory type lodgings at the Marine base, ditto at Mammoth Mtn., the casino reopening,Thanksgiving and X-Mas coming up with people still making big family plans, all the hospitals in northern Nevada are filling up where they fly… Read more »

Terrific resource. Thank you Erik.
Has either Mono or Inyo County made a statement on Superior Court Judge Heckman’s ruling on the unconstitutionality of Gavin Newsom’s Executive Orders? While the ruling will be appealed, under the current decision, our local counties could legally disregard the current color-coded schema. If PHOs Boo and Richardson are able… Read more »
the crackpots want to have it both ways. It’s someone’s fault/ But the problem doesn’t exist. Effective measures are tyranny, but all deaths are due to ineffectual tyrants. Why does it seem these people failed both science and art?
The problem is, quacque, is that they are not effective measures. One can look to Sweden and Belarus to find populations where herd immunity has been reached, or to Peru and Belgium – heavily locked down and masked countries who have the highest death rates in the world. Every bit… Read more »
We evolved without masks because they “have significant impacts on health” – ? Would love to see the citation on that. Please provide. Twitter is not a source. “all of the science” does NOT circulate on Twitter, it circulates in peer-reviewed journals. Africa’s countries shut down and imposed curfews early… Read more »
I am so tired of people throwing in the Sweden comparison, a country that is the size of Washington,Oregon and California but a population that is 35x smaller than the U.S.. And then there’s this.https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/covid-19-case-surge-forces-sweden-rethink-strategy-praised-u-n1248545
even so, they aren’t as bad as the US. Look how Taiwan handled it, very successful, although they’re going up now too.
Zoom/Tourbillion, do you really think that we’re all twirling our mustaches and plotting to overthrow “petty tyrants” and “color-coded schema”? You sound like a villain from Scooby Doo, guy. During World War Two the petty tyrants made everyone ration food and gas and even put on a uniform and get… Read more »
That ruling was stayed by the 3rd District Court of Appeal.
Does anyone know the status of hospital cases, if any in the county? Are all the cases mild with minimal complications? Those factors are very important.
Here’s the best I’ve been able to find Greg. It’s really too bad the local media (with the possible exception of the only once a week Sheet) is not making more of an effort to ask questions of our local officials and report beyond a press release. Sure miss Benett.… Read more »
Nov. 10, 2020: Don’t know about Mono County, but Covid-19 hospitalizations hit an all-time high of 61,964 in the U.S. today. (NYT) And there were 1403 deaths reported. (Washington Post) And only the very wealthy or powerful are hospitalized with “mild” cases.
Greg, can you share why that information would be “very important” ?
No COVID update for Friday on the county’s website. And our numbers are trending poorly, so that is concerning…
