In July, Bishop resident JoAnn Barba was sentenced to two years and ten months in prison for embezzling $760,000 from wamuthe Bishop branch of the Washington Mutual bank.

Barba was set to self surrender on September 11th. We have since been contacted by residents who had seen Barba after that date. Department of Justice officials report that the judge has granted Barba an extension to allow her to finish up a move so that her daughter has a place to stay.

In July, Barba pleaded guilty to the embezzlement that first came to light in 2007. When the sentence was imposed, the Judge stated that Barbas actions were the result of her gambling addiction.

Court documents state that Barba is in the process of moving and needs another week to finish that move. Barba will serve her sentence at the Federal Correctional Complex in Victorville and is now set to self surrender on the 18th of September.
