A gofundme page was set up and as of Monday evening, the site has been flooded with donations, prayers and offers of help to the family. With a goal of $10,000 to assist the family’s stay near Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, donations are close to $4,000.

According to the story in today’s Inyo Register, Ajia Saunders, an un-named 17-year old girl and Jesus Montano, 18, were riding on the running boards of a Toyota 4Runner driven by Victor Esquivel, 18. Traveling at 10 miles per hour, Esquivel hit the brakes. All three teens were ejected from the vehicle according to the report.

Saunders suffered brain and head trauma and was flown to Renown. The female complained of pain in her wrist and legs, Montano suffered possible head injury.

The gofundme page stated Saunders underwent surgery and was in a medically-induced coma. An update by late Monday morning indicated Saunders was very responsive to all the neuro tests. The funds will be used to help cover expenses for Ajia’s parents, Rhondda and Wayne Saunders to stay with their daughter in Reno as well as help with medical expenses.
