– City of Bishop press release

To promote water conservation, the city has a water conservation incentive program to help its water customers save water.

The program provides free hose nozzles, hose timers, and irrigation system timers and provides rebates for some sprinkler systems and water conserving appliances. The incentives are available only to water customers of the City of Bishop and are limited to one per customer account.

Several local businesses are supporting the city’s water conservation incentive program through their generous involvement. Western Nevada Supply, High Country Lumber, Home Lumber Company, Bishop Nursery, and Manor True Value are each pledging support for the program by offering vouchers to City of Bishop water customers for items and rebates that are a part of the program.

Vouchers for the free hose nozzles, hose timers, and irrigation system timers are available at the City of Bishop Public Works office. To receive these items, come in, fill out an application, and pick up a voucher.

Rebate vouchers are available for installing water saving sprinkler systems and for eligible upgrades to clothes washers, dish washers, and toilets. To receive a rebate voucher, fill out an application, have your old item verified by city staff, and take your voucher to a local participating business.

More information and applications are available on the city website or from City of Bishop Public Works. Every drop of water used in Bishop has to be pumped out of the ground. Pumping water uses a lot of electricity and, when more water is used, costs go up.

Since water rates need to cover costs, rates have to reflect the higher costs. Conserving water helps keep rates lower. Saving water saves money, reduces water rates, protects groundwater, is the right thing to do, and is now required by the state.
