I’m not saying the pick-up driver was speeding,or even at fault in this case…but the way our travelers were ( and still are ) speeding and driving through Lone Pine on Main St. this holiday week-end, it surprises me this was the only accident that happened in town…but speeding through the town is nothing new…just more of it with the heavier holiday traffic volume.
The deputies & CHP can’t be everywhere…SPEED camera’s are being implemented down south , so maybe it’s something Inyo County should look into. The only way to get the speed-demons attention is to hit ’em in the wallet. It FINALLY worked for me , after spending the entire decade of the 80’s in traffic court .

Agree, they can’t be everywhere, but seems they should be SOMEWHERE other than the open highway between Bishop and Mammoth Lakes, like some were saying a heavy LE presence and enforcement over the holidays, or Independence ,where others also mentioned many speeding citations issued…kinda bad if they didn’t do it there, what with the County seat in town, and makes them look kind of bad when vehicles going 100 MPH+ go crashing into shoe stores a couple blocks from the County jail…
I don’t speed when I drive, never over 65 MPH,but if I were a speeder,I’d feel fairly safe doing it heading north on a camping or fishing trip, holiday ,three day week-end or not, untill I got into the area past June Lake and near Lee Vining and onto Bridgeport..
According to those living up there,Law Enforcement does a great job enforcing the speed laws ,and especially through the town streets…try going 77 MPH through Bridgeport, like I’ve witnessed myself someone doing when heading north into Independence, according to that speed-alert sign as you enter the town at 10 A.M.
The speed limit is 35mph-45mph north of Begole so speed was not a factor in this accident, what was a factor was the unsafe manner the skateboarder was utilizing the roadway. It’s clear the skateboarder was in essence jaywalking in this stretch of road and crossing the highway in an unsafe manner. Guaranteed the skateboarder (along with not wearing a helmet) also didnt have lights on themselves. Just because a car strikes a person, DOES NOT mean the car is always at fault, in fact accident data in the Eastern Sierra shows most vehicle-pedestrian accidents are the fault of the pedestrian.
