Thursday night, Mono Sheriff deputies arrested a Chalfant resident for allegedly threatening people with a pistol.

Sheriff officials report that officers responded to a Chalfant residence after reports of a man acting out of control who had possibly threatened people with a handgun.

Just before 9:00 pm, deputies and CHP officers arrived on scene to find that 52 year old Jay N. Medrud had allegedly threatened several relatives with a handgun and allegedly had physically assaulted his wife.

After officers surrounded the home, the suspect came out and raised his pistol in the direction of one of the deputies, officers report. The deputy, fearing for his safety, fired one round from his duty pistol, according to Sheriff officials. The suspect was not injured and went back inside, officers say.

Officers report that Medrud came back out a few minutes later, verbally threatening the officers. Officers used a Taser to take the suspect into custody with out further incident.

Mono Sheriff officials say that Medrud is awaiting charges that range from assault with a deadly weapon to inflicting corporal injury to a spouse.
