Traffic Advisory for the Week of 3/23/2026 to 3/27/2026

 

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of March 23 – March 27.

 

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

 

New Traffic Impacts

 

 

Eastern Kern County

 

Tehachapi Sinkhole Repair Work – On State Route 202 between W. Tehachapi Boulevard and Conway Avenue, the outside westbound lane and shoulder will close while crews repair a sinkhole Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Broome Road Core Drilling – On State Route 58 just east of Broome Road, crews will drill core samples in the pavement of the inside eastbound lane Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

 

 

Inyo County

 

Fish Springs Pavement – On U.S. 395 from Elna Road to N. Fish Springs Road, there will be intermittent lane closures while crews stripe the northbound lanes. Crews will also pour concrete to form pedestrian islands within Big Pine from Sepsey Street to Baker Creek Road. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Aspendell Utility Work – On State Route 168 W from Big Trees Road to South Lake Road, utility crews will perform overhead maintenance Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Shoshone Chip Seal Work – On State Route 178 E from Shoshone to the Nevada state line, there will be one-way traffic control while crews seal cracks in the pavement Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Death Valley Bicycle Tour – There will be a bicycle tour in and around Death Valley National Park in the following locations:

On State Route 190 from the Furnace Creek Visitor Center to Death Valley Junction,

On State Route 127 from Shoshone to Tecopa Hot Springs Road.

Cyclists will be on the road Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There are no closures planned for this event. Drivers who encounter cyclists on the road are encouraged to move over and pass safely when possible.

 

Mono County

 

 

Conway Ranch Utility Work – On U.S. 395 from State Route 167 to Conway Ranch Road north of Mono Lake, the shoulders in both directions will close while utility crews perform overhead maintenance work on Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

 

 

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

 

 

Eastern Kern County

 

Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 E from French Avenue to S. Gold Canyon Street, the westbound outside lane, shoulder, and turn lanes at the S. China Lake Boulevard intersection will close while utility crews dig trenches and install electrical conduit under the sidewalks Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Mojave Utility Work – On State Route 14 between Meyer Road and Silver Queen Road, there will be intermittent traffic breaks in both directions for utility work on Monday through Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

 

Inyo County

Meadow Farms ADA Project – On the northbound lanes of U.S. 395, traffic is reduced to one lane from See Vee Lane to the bridge while crews construct sidewalk, curbs, and gutters. The southbound shoulder will intermittently close from Tu Su Lane to See Vee Lane while crews construct light pole foundations and erect the poles. All driveways remain accessible during construction. Bridge work over Bishop Creek will continue through the end of March. The speed limit within the work area is 25 mph. Work is scheduled Tuesday through Friday from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Bishop Pavement Project – Sidewalk work on the northbound side of U.S. 395 has shifted to the stretch between Willow Street and Line Street. The right-turn pocket on E. Line Street onto U.S. 395 and the left-turn pocket onto U.S. 395 from W. Line Street are closed. Right turns onto Willow Street from U.S. 395 are unavailable. Access to Elm Street from U.S. 395 is available again. On North Sierra Highway between Wye Road and See Vee Lane, all traffic has shifted to the northbound lanes so crews can install new box culverts under the southbound lanes. Work on the curbs, gutters, and driveways for the new multi-use path is ongoing. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph from See Vee Lane to Wye Road. Caltrans continues to monitor the roadway and may temporarily stop traffic to implement fixes on the pavement. Work is scheduled Tuesday through Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Lone Pine Bulbouts Project – On U.S. 395 from Inyo Street to Post Street, the outside lane, shoulder, and sidewalks in both directions are closed while crews construct pedestrian bulbouts and a flashing pedestrian beacon at Muir Street. Work is scheduled Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There is a sidewalk detour on the west side of the road, and businesses remain accessible throughout the project. Drivers may experience brief delays.

 

The Bishop Pavement Project received $18.36 million, the Meadow Farms ADA Project received $13.56 million, and the Fish Springs Pavement Project received $36.79 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, infrastructure safety enhancements, and to increase infrastructure resiliency to the impacts of severe weather and climate change. The Fish Springs Pavement Project received $4.77 million and the Bishop Pavement Project received $2.4 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1. SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
