Traffic Advisory for the Week of 12/9/2024 – 12/13/2024

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of December 9 – December 13.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

 

New Traffic Impacts

 

Eastern Kern County

·     Sand Canyon Utility Work – On State Route 58, there will be two overnight closures of the eastbound shoulder for utility work between Summit and Sand Canyon Road:

·     From 2:30 pm on Sunday to 6:00 am on Monday.

·     From 7:30 pm on Tuesday to 6:00 am on Wednesday.

·     Walker Pass Utility Work – On State Route 178, there will be utility work at various locations between Weldon and Canebrake:

·     On Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm two miles west of Alta Vista Way.

·     On Tuesday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm between Fay Ranch Road and Doyle Ranch Road.

·     On Thursday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm between Oliver Lane and Chimney Peak Road.

One-way traffic control will be implemented on Thursday and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

·     Tehachapi Utility Work – On State Route 202 between Sage Lane and Tucker Road, the westbound shoulder will close while utility crews place conduit and fiber optic cable Tuesday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

 

Mono County

·     The Trees Guardrail Repair – On U.S. 395 from State Route 203 to Mammoth Scenic Loop, the southbound outside lane and shoulder will close while crews repair guardrail Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.

·     Bridgeport Banner Replacement – On U.S. 395, crews will be swapping out the town banner over the highway on Tuesday between 6:00 am and 10:00 am . Drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

 

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

 

Eastern Kern County

·     Ridgecrest Sidewalk Work – On State Route 178 E from Gateway Boulevard to Gold Canyon Street, the westbound outside lane and shoulder are closed while crews perform sidewalk, curb, and gutter work Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·     Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 E from Ward Avenue to W. Graaf Avenue, the westbound outside lane, shoulder, and sidewalk will close while utility crews repair infrastructure in the shoulder Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·     Cache Creek/Keene Scales CMS Project – On State Route 58 at the Cache Creek Scales near Mojave, the westbound outside shoulder will close while crews perform electrical work. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

·     China Lake Water Main Replacement – On State Route 178 E between N. Brady Street and N. Victor Street, the westbound outside lane is closed while crews replace a water main Monday through Wednesday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. The outside lane will reopen after work hours and the shoulder will close at night.

 

Inyo County

·     Bishop Christmas Parade – On U.S. 395 from Schober Lane to Sierra Street in Bishop, there will be a Christmas parade on Saturday, December 7. The road will be closed from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Detours will be available.

·     Olancha-Cartago Northbound Traffic Switch – Northbound traffic now runs on the new northbound lanes of U.S. 395 within the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway Project area. Traffic remains in the new alignment until just south of Crystal Geyser Road, where through traffic will use the left lane to continue north toward Lone Pine and Bishop, while drivers looking to access Olancha, Cartago, and State Route 190 to Death Valley will use the right lane to head east. Drivers are advised to follow the directions posted on highway signs. Southbound traffic remains in its current traffic pattern. The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph through the traffic switches and 55 mph through the project area.

·     Olancha Shoulder Closures – On U.S. 395 at the junction with State Route 190 in Olancha, there will be intermittent shoulder closures to allow trucks access to deliver material Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·     Death Valley Flood Damage Repair – On State Route 190 in the following locations in Death Valley National Park, crews continue flood damage repairs:

·     Near Zabriskie Point.

·     About 6 miles west of Stovepipe Wells near Emigrant Campground

Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control 24 hours a day and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
