Traffic Advisory for the Week of 12/16/2024 – 12/20/2024

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of December 16 – December 20.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

New Traffic Impacts

 

Eastern Kern County

·     Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 E from Feldspar Avenue to Ward Avenue, the westbound outside lane and shoulder will close while utility crews work on infrastructure Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

·     Tehachapi Pass Guardrail Repair – On State Route 58 from Broome Road to approximately 3 miles east near Tehachapi, the eastbound outside lane and shoulder will close while crews repair guardrail on Monday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

·     Sand Canyon Utility Work – On State Route 58 between Tehachapi Boulevard and Cameron Road, the outside lane and shoulders in both directions will close while utility crews install new conductors on Tuesday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·     Walker Pass Utility Work – On State Route 178 between Oliver Lane and 2 miles east near Onyx, utility crews will cross wire over the road on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

 

Inyo County

·     West Bishop Utility Work – On State Route 168 W (W. Line Street) between Red Hill Road and Mountain View Road in West Bishop, utility crews will cross wire over the road overnight from Sunday at 10:00 pm to Monday at 6:00 am. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

·     North Sierra Highway Utility Work – On U.S. 395 between See Vee Lane and Barlow Lane in Bishop, the northbound outside lane and shoulder will close while utility crews replace overhead switches and transfer conductors on Monday from 7:00 am to noon. Drivers may experience brief delays.

 

Mono County

·     Benton Utility Work – On U.S. 6 between State Route 120 E (Mono Mills Road) and South Road, the southbound shoulder will close while crews maintain utility poles on Monday from noon to 4:00 pm.

·     Lee Vining Utility Work – On U.S. 395 at 4th Street, the northbound outside lane and shoulder will close while utility crews replace a pole on Tuesday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

·     Bridgeport Reservoir Utility Work – On State Route 182 from Sagebrush Drive to Lakeside Drive, utility crews will cross wire over the road on Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be intermittent traffic breaks and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

San Bernardino County (District 9 maintains State Routes 127 and 178 in San Bernardino County in coordination with District 8)

·     Trona Road Utility Work – On State Route 178 E from two miles west of Trona Road near Ridgecrest to two miles east, utility crews will replace poles on Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

 

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

 

Eastern Kern County

·     Ridgecrest Utility Work – On State Route 178 E from Ward Avenue to W. Graaf Avenue, the westbound outside lane, shoulder, and sidewalk will close while utility crews repair infrastructure in the shoulder Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·     Cache Creek/Keene Scales CMS Project – On State Route 58 at the Cache Creek Scales near Mojave, the westbound outside shoulder will close while crews perform electrical work. The westbound outside lane and shoulder will close near Hart Flat Road at Exit 137 west of Tehachapi will close while crews pave. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

·     China Lake Water Main Replacement – On State Route 178 E between N. Brady Street and N. Victor Street, the westbound outside lane is closed while crews replace a water main Monday through Wednesday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. The outside lane will reopen after work hours and the shoulder will close at night.

 

Inyo County

·     Olancha-Cartago Northbound Traffic Switch – Northbound traffic now runs on the new northbound lanes of U.S. 395 within the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway Project area. Traffic remains in the new alignment until just south of Crystal Geyser Road, where through traffic will use the left lane to continue north toward Lone Pine and Bishop, while drivers looking to access Olancha, Cartago, and State Route 190 to Death Valley will use the right lane to head east. Drivers are advised to follow the directions posted on highway signs. Southbound traffic remains in its current traffic pattern. The speed limit is reduced to 45 mph through the traffic switches and 55 mph through the project area.

·     Olancha Shoulder Closures – On U.S. 395 at the junction with State Route 190 in Olancha, there will be intermittent shoulder closures to allow trucks access to deliver material Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

·     Death Valley Flood Damage Repair – On State Route 190 in the following locations in Death Valley National Park, crews continue flood damage repairs:

·     Near Zabriskie Point.

·     About 6 miles west of Stovepipe Wells near Emigrant Campground

Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control 24 hours a day and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
