Greetings,
The Caltrans Office of Air Quality and Climate Change is excited to kickoff cycle 2 of the 2023 Climate Adaptation Planning Grant (CAPG) program with an outreach workshop in your region on August 15th. In the FY 2022/2023 State Budget, $50M was allocated to the CAPG grant program to support local, regional and Tribal identification of transportation-related climate vulnerabilities through the development of climate adaptation plans as well as project level adaptation planning to identify adaptation projects and strategies for transportation infrastructure.
During the first completed cycle of CAPG funding, Caltrans funded 26 grant projects totaling $18.1M. During the upcoming second cycle (applications due Mid-January 2024), $31.9M will be available for additional adaptation planning projects statewide. These workshops are intended for all eligible entities (Metropolitan Planning Organizations, Regional Transportation Planning Agencies, Tribal governments, cities, counties, and transit agencies) interested in potentially applying for adaptation planning grant funding. In addition to time for project brainstorming and Q&A, workshop presentation topics will include:
- What is climate adaptation for transportation infrastructure?
- Eligible CAPG project types
- CAPG program requirements
- Successful adaptation planning project examples
- Differences between this program and other State adaptation funding opportunities
During the workshop, the Caltrans headquarters CAPG management team will share an informative presentation in partnership with Caltrans District 9 staff in your region. We look forward to your attendance at the workshop and welcome any questions you may have on the program. A workshop flyer will be added to this invitation in the next coming weeks.
If you have any questions, please contact your Caltrans district representative, or email us at adaptation.planning.grants@dot.ca.gov.
